Day 1-Traveling...

Day 1- Aren't airplanes fun? We spent the whole day on planes and in waiting areas. We flew from Phoenix to Cinninati, Ohio (which Kevin thought was the "potato state") From there we flew to Richmond, VA. Got the car and spent the night at the Double Tree at the airport. Got up at 6 (that's 3 AM to Phoenix), and drove to Shenandoah. This has to be the best run park in the country!  All sites are private, and clean, and we weren't here ten minutes before seeing deer. We ate lunch on a porch at a wayside, and we saw hikers with backpacks and pole. Gotta remember to leave some trail magic for the through hikers! We are driving to Waynesboro for dinner. Tomorrow we hike!

Best Father's Day Ever!

Leslie and the boys surprised me Friday at lunch with the news that we were going to Flagstaff that evening to stay the night so I could drive up to antelope canyon and take pictures. I try to get in a little photography everywhere we go, but it's hard to give that my full attention when we're all together. So, they were offering me a real treat...a chance to go and not worry about anything but having my camera geek fun.
The slot canyons were beautiful! Another really unique place on the long list of places we've been able to visit over the years. It was crowded with photographers, but everyone was considerate, so it was possible to get your shots.
I stayed about 90 minutes, but I think you could hike through the place in half that time. I'd give the experience a 10 based on the thoughtfulness that went in to getting me there to enjoy it.

Father's Day Treat!

Well, it's Father's Day weekend. I have to say, I can't think of a person I miss more in my life than my own dad. Every camping trip, every adventure, every hike I take my kids on is because of the need to pass on that great love he had for adventure and the outdoors. Our best family times were spent camping, skiing, and fishing and I hope my children learn to love it and share it with their kids.
So, we have planned a little surprise for Steve. We are taking him to Flagstaff, and tomorrow he is headed off to spend the day taking pictures at Antelope Canyon! This is a slot canyon near Page on the Navajo Reservation. You have to get a guide to take you out there. steve has always wanted to visit so, Steve gets to play with his cameras all day, and we will lay by the pool and play video games! The next post will be written by him and will show some of his pictures and his adventures!
Don't forget to hug and kiss your Dads! :)

I am emailing a few of you my blog so you can follow us during our upcoming vacation and see what craziness we have signed up for! Each time we post, you will get an email. Enjoy!
